Race Report: Noosa Triathlon (4th)
Well I’m just back from the Noosa Triathlon. The pro field was a “who's who” of professional triathletes from Australia, plus throw in a few well-known internationals and we were set for a cracker race.
I got away to a good start in the swim and hit the lead early on. It was non-wetsuit and my new Cannibal suit swam pretty sweet! I was hitting a pretty solid speed that I knew would be hurting the other boys later on in the race.
After leading out of the water I was excited about the bike because I have had good legs in training and wanted to see how I would go in a quality field. Dave Dellow was working with me whilst the other boys sat on in typical ITU style.
Paul Matthews came through with James Hodge and Paul said “let's split it”, so we lit it right up and pulled away with Dave and James Seear to make a strong lead group of 5. I hit 100kph on the decent (no speed wobbles on the Teschner bike) and charged for T2, knowing the run was going to be crucial.
I was first off the bike and onto the run with Paul. We had 2 1/2 minutes on the chase group including Courtney Atkinson and Chris McCormack. I knew they wouldn't catch us so I set off racing for the win. Paul went out super hard with Jimmy whilst Dave and I hang back and built into it. By the turn around we pulled up to Jimmy, and Dave kicked on with Paul for a battle to the finish, which Dave won, taking line honors. Meanwhile I had an ironwar battle with Jimmy for 3rd, which I lost in a sprint placing me 4th.
But all in all I am very happy with my form and I’m looking forward to Port Mac 70.3 this Sunday.
Thanks to my sponsors (Vorgee, Skoda, Cannibal, Blueseventy) and to my friends and family for the support!
